Updated Red schedule from Jim Jannard
Posted by gbalaji in 4K, Digital Cinema, RED on September 22, 2007
Via Jim Jannard in Reduser.net,
I am posting the newest delivery schedule as of today. I know that some will be unhappy. My apologies. It is my call.
There are two primary reasons for the slip.
1. A bad batch of IR/LP filters. We now have good ones on the way and a backup supplier, but a $35 part has set us back on a $17,500 camera.
2. A change in our Firmware plan. We have found that when we enable features, we are having more bugs than anticipated.
The extra time will give us the “elbow room” we need to finish enabling a batch of features and thouroughly test the build before shipping. I have to admit that we were caught off guard by this. The extra time is mandatory so we can get back ahead of the game.I appreciate everyone’s patience in this startup phase of RED ONE delivery.
I think everyone knows how difficult a task we put on ourselves with our aggressive program. We have been open in telling you the good news and the bad. Transparency means telling you everything, if even when the news is not what you want to hear.We are helping connect those that have a desparate need to shoot RED with customers that already have a RED ONE.

HP Desktop with Blu-ray & HD-DVD combo writer
via Engadget,
Regrettably, there’s not a lot to go on just yet, but DigiTimes has it that HP will soon be launching “next-generation PCs with a Blu-ray / HD DVD dual-format burner.” The announcement was reportedly issued at a product presentation held in Singapore, and while no model numbers were doled out, we can purportedly expect the two-faced machines to land in Europe and America sometime next month.
Balaji Note: Hp is taking a great initiative to promote HD-DVD and Blu-ray to end user than the original creators of both side.
Sony HDV 1080p camera with interchangeable lens
Sony showed off a new shoulder-mounted HDV camcorder at both NAB and IBC this year. The camcorder doesn’t have a model name yet, but we do know it will record HDV/DVCAM/DV using three, 1/3″ ClearVID CMOS sensors. It will also be capable of 1080p recording in the HDV format and will be compatible with full-size cassettes for up to 4.7 hours of recording.
Also shown at IBC but not named was a small form factor HDV camcorder also featuring three, 1/3″ ClearVID CMOS sensors. Both camcorders will have a 1/3″ bayonet mount for accepting interchangeable lenses.
Balaji notes: The above unnamed HDV Camera from sony was showcased in NAB and IBC.
LG Blu-ray & HD-DVD combo Player for $999
LG has shown in CEDIA booth , their new combo player playing both HD-DVD and Blu-ray for the price tag of $999. Cool.
Will samsung and LG take HD-DVD and Blu-ray players and media to the masses?
