I suggest Canon 7D rather than T2i. To get visual comparisons of the output, you can visit www.zacuto.com and check for The Great Shoot Out videos Part 1,2 &3 to get clear picture.

Hey Gopla,
I've been following your blog/twitter for a while and I'm in hunt for a camera under a small budget. I know you're professional but I guess you would've weighed in the options of DSLR video cameras as you own a 5DMkII
I have some experience in still photography and understand how important it is to have full manual controls. I decided to rule out consumer grade cmcorders which still gives me good HD video for this reason. 5DMKII is out of my budget range. The next consideration is 7D, but reading reviews of 7D and T2i, it looks like in terms of picture quality and features, T2i almost matches 7D but for almost $800-900 lesser. Its not weatherproofed and it does have some quirks in terms of ease of operation, so I would like to know your opinion on going for T2i instead of 7D.
I have no video experience but the idea of buying this camera is to try out some documentary style shoots which can have some kind of quality video and audio

I think when looking for cameras to buy, first the name shoukd stand out at you. If its a brand that you havent heard of, you should think again. At least if go with a canon you know what to expect!
