Last week worked on Television Commercial “Chennai Marathon 2008″ from shoot to finish in 3 days. Offline was done in Avid. Given below the Avid workflow.

RED Post-production workflow

RED Digital Camera is on all buzz for almost two years from its first appearance on NAB 2006 to till date. I receive number of calls for availability of RED rental for filmmakers in India. I found some friends in RED User group, Who commit me the availability of RED for Rental in India . Anyone wants to shoot on RED till the first camera to arrive in India can contact me. Meantime in coming weeks will post RED post-production workflow for softwares Apple Final Cut Pro, Avid Xpress Pro / Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 / After Effects CS3.

Apple Pro Apps Software Upgrade

This update addresses issues with keyboard interface reliability for Apple’s professional applications and is recommended for all users of Final Cut Studio.

Final Cut Pro: Troubleshooting Basics
If Final Cut Pro isn’t starting up properly or performing normally, try these basic troubleshooting steps to remedy the situation. Please note that these steps aren’t exhaustive, and are not intended to cover any specific issue. They are fundamental, basic steps that are most effective in getting Final Cut Pro into good working order, and are the steps most often suggested by AppleCare Technical Support.

Confirm requirements and versions

Check system requirementsMake sure that you haven’t overlooked any hardware aspect that’s required to use Final Cut Pro. You can view the system requirements on the Final Cut Pro Technical Specifications page.
Update to the latest software versionsChoose Apple > Software Update and make sure that you have the most recent updates for your versions of Final Cut Pro, QuickTime, and other important system files. Installing the latest updates ensures that your software has the latest improvements and enhancements.
Check compatibility and driver versions for third-party devicesIf you’re using a third-party capture card, storage system, input device, or something else, check the support area on the manufacturer’s website to be sure that you’re using the latest version of the relevant driver or other software for your device. To see if your video device has been qualified for use with Final Cut Pro, check out the Final Cut Studio Device Qualification web page.

Delete the User Preferences

You can resolve many issues by restoring Final Cut Pro back to its original settings. This will not impact your project files, but you should verify your Scratch Disk location setting after doing this. To reset your Final Cut Pro user preference settings to their original state, do the following:

In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences—the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
Remove the “com.apple.finalcutpro.plist” file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the “Final Cut Pro User Data” folder from the Preferences folder.

Remove receipts and reinstall Final Cut Pro

Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Final Cut Pro. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application and its receipts, then install Final Cut Pro and use Software Update to install additional updates. You don’t have to remove everything that was installed with Final Cut Pro. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Final Cut Pro. Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs and serial number handy before starting this.

Open the Applications folder.
Drag the Final Cut Pro application to the Trash.
Go to /Library/Receipts.
In the Receipts folder, select the “FinalCutPro.pkg” file.
Choose View > as List to view the contents in a list.
Click the Date Modified column header so you can easily see all of the receipts that were installed at the same time as Final Cut Pro.
Drag the FinalCutPro.pkg receipt to the Trash, as well as any other items that have the same modification date within 3 minutes of the FinalCutPro.pkg’s modification date.
Click the Name column header to sort the list alphabetically.
Drag any other receipts whose names begin with “Final Cut Pro” to the Trash.
Insert your Final Cut Pro installation disc and install Final Cut Pro.
When finished, use Software Update (under the Apple menu) to update your software to the latest version.

Final Cut Studio 2 Update

Apple has released software update for their Pro Apps today for Final Cut Pro 6.0.1, Sound TracK Pro 2.0.1,Color 1.0.1 and Compressor 3.0.1.

Final Cut Pro 6.0.1 contains several updates, including:
- Improved stability
- Support for the AVCHD format through the Log and Transfer interface
- FXPlug improvements with Motion and third-party applications
- Improved master template support
- Resolution of issues with long filenames (greater than 32 characters, up to 255 characters) on non-HFS file systems (network or Xsan volumes, FAT32 volumes, and so on)

Motion update solves the following fixes:
- 32-bit float projects
- Rendering of intersecting 3D groups
- Final Cut Pro integration

Soundtrack Pro 2.0.1 contains several updates, including:
- Improved stability
- Improved performance
- Delay Designer surround effect plug-in

Color Updates solves the following fixes:
- Improved stability
- Improved metadata support from Final Cut Pro
- Improved single-display mode
- Floating-point processing on computers with NVIDIA graphics cards
- Dissolves of 2K files during rendering

Pro Application Update 2007-01 includes fixes to underlying frameworks and shared components for the updated Final Cut Studio 2 applications.

FCP 6 – P2 import now Log and Transfer

Importing P2 clips in Final Cut Pro 6 has been moved from import and named as Log and Transfer instead of Import->P2 xxxx in Final Cut Pro 5.

In one of my recent Corporate video project i got a chance to use Final Cut Pro 6. More post regarding FCP 6 follows soon.
